Cornelius McDonald launched a nonprofit called Stay Solid to address youth violence soon after his brother was fatally shot five years ago in Northwest Washington. The organization’s president said McDonald had recently toured six high schools in Maryland, and had more to go.

Early Saturday, McDonald, 33, became a victim of the violence he had devoted his life to preventing, when police said he was fatally shot outside a restaurant in Largo, in Prince George’s County.
