A quiet meal at his favorite restaurant turned into a wild scene Sunday night for Paul Bissonnette, a former NHL player who is a TV analyst and part of the “Spittin’ Chiclets” hockey podcast. He became involved in a fight in which he “took some, gave more” in defense of staff members who were being harassed.

<a href="https://x.com/BizNasty2point0/status/1861238006092349950?t=omcCWzMrIzSDpocfwI-FTA&s=19" target=_blank>In a three-minute video posted to X</a>, Bissonnette said the altercation began when he saw a group of guests pressuring an assistant manager and manager on a busy evening at Houston’s in Scottsdale, Arizona.

“You could tell [the manager] was a little shocked and surprised and stunned,” Bissonnette said. “It’s a family restaurant. I don’t think there was anybody in there who could go maybe, like, help him out. I went over, I just grabbed the guy’s arm that was on him, I said, ‘Sir, if you continue to harass and assault the staff, we’re going to have problems.’ And then they just started chucking, so it escalated extremely quickly.”

Bissonnette, who was involved in 69 fights during his playing career according to <a href="http://hockeyfights.com/" target=_blank>HockeyFights.com</a>, described the assailants as “drunk golfers.” Scottsdale police said in an email to The Washington Post that six men had been arrested.

Henry P. Mesker, Danny Bradley and Edward J. Jennings were charged with misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct, John G. Carroll with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, and William J. Carroll with two counts of misdemeanor assault and two counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Sean M. Daley faces felony charges of aggravated assault and possessing a forged instrument, and a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.

“There was an altercation inside the restaurant with six adult men and the management,” around 7:30 p.m., police confirmed to The Post. “Reportedly, Paul Bissonnette tried to help management calm the men and get them to leave. The situation escalated to the men assaulting Paul Bissonnette both inside and outside of the restaurant.”

In the latest “Spittin’ Chicklets” episode that dropped Tuesday, Bissonnette <a href="https://youtu.be/Kp7II0a0Gak?si=6qyNFKqDzOVK1gAN" target=_blank>described “a crazy night”</a> and said he was “still trying to process” what happened. He said he was “banged up” with his ear still bleeding and added, “my jaw is swollen and I’ll have a black eye tomorrow.” He was treated and released from a hospital.

He said on the podcast that “they were seeing red and there was no stopping them, so I just kept fighting away” and that he “ate three kicks — one in the neck and two in the head” when the men had him on the ground during what he estimated was a “three-, three-and-a-half-minute” incident. It ended when he rose and ran into a nearby CVS, with police quickly arriving.

“Got taken down a couple times,” Bissonnette said on X. “… Luckily didn’t get knocked out. Did go to the hospital, so that’s what everybody is reading about. Just bad dudes. Way too drunk, and I don’t know what else they had in their system. Yeah, I’m very, very angry at these guys and kind of want their names out there and want them to pay the piper. Just unacceptable behavior at a family restaurant just because they couldn’t grab another cocktail and didn’t want to hear ‘no’ for an answer.”

Bissonnette, 39, played in 202 NHL games from 2008-14 and spent five seasons with the Phoenix Coyotes. He also is a panelist on TNT’s national television coverage and indicated that he would be in the studio for Wednesday’s doubleheader.
