FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Just before noon on July 1, the opening day of free agency in the NHL, the Washington Capitals announced that they had traded for defenseman Jakob Chychrun, who had been with the Ottawa Senators. Less than three hours later, after a flurry of high-profile moves, the Capitals announced that forward Brandon Duhaime had signed a two-year contract.
